1 GEMSTONE: Carnelian or sardius/sardonyx from Hebrew odem (root adam) to show blood, or turn rosy red (magenta). It is a kind of flint, or chalcedony. First mentioned and first place on Aarons breastplate; speaks of blood of Yeshua and blood covering. (Revelations 4:3) Reuben was born of Leah and was the first son of Jacob.
2 NAME IN HEBREW SCRIPT: Reuben
3 LEFT STREAMER: Literal meaning of Reuben is 'behold a son'. Jacob fell in love with Labans younger daughter, but had to work fourteen years before Rachel was given in marriage. Laban deceived Jacob by substituting his (veiled) elder daughter, Leah, whose name means married. Now the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, and He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. Leah conceived and bore a son and named him Reuben, See, a son! A new beginning. (Genesis 29:31-32) This is prophetic of Yeshua (Hebrew raah, to see, and ben, son); a new beginning (redemption) for all mankind.
4 PAINTING: (see next page)
5 RIGHT STREAMER: The heavenly sign is water. Reuben, you are my first-born; my might and the beginning of my strength, preeminent in dignity and power.
(Genesis 49:3-4)
6 THE STANDARD: The rising sun, or a blossoming plant (probably a mandrake, love-plant). (See story of Issachars birth.)
7 ASPECT OF THE GOSPEL Water stands for a number of things in the Scripture baptisms, the Holy Spirit, the water of the Word, river of life from Yeshua belly. Note that Reuben, like man, fell into sin (incest), paid the price, and eventually came into his destiny.
[Note: Numbers for generic elements are not repeated.]
THE REUBEN PAINTING
The Rising Sun: reflecting on the clouds and mountain, coming to its full strength.
The Blossoming Plant: As Jacobs first born, Reuben represents hope in the opening of a new generation. (Genesis 49:3)
The Clutching Hands: refers to Reuben being as uncontrolled as water.
The Water Bearer: Jacob said of Reuben, Uncontrolled as water ... (Genesis 49:3-4) This was because Reuben laid with Bilhah his fathers concubine, Rachels maid, mother of Dan and Naphtali. (Genesis 35:22) Because of this the double portion of the firstborn was given to Joseph (I Chronicles 5:1)
The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; for waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert. (Isaiah 35:1, 6)
I will open rivers in desolate heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. (Isaiah 41:18)
Fear not, O Jacob My servant; and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring.
(Isaiah 44:2b-3)
