THE NAPHTALI PAINTINGThe Hind: Today the Jewish people often use the deer or hind to represent Naphtali. The source is Jacobs prophecy (Genesis 49:21), Naphtali is a hind let loose . . . The hind is sure footed on the mountain, placing her feet in the same spot as the male (husband/Lord) she follows. He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places. (II Sam 22:34; see also Psalms 18:33; Habakkuk 3:19)The Goats and Altar: The heavenly sign is a goat/fish. The goat depicts the atoning sacrifice. This represents the people the atonement is made for. It is described in the Bible by the two goats (Leviticus 16:7-10); the goat of the sin-offering (God hath given it to you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement of them before the Lord; Leviticus 10:16,17 Yom Kippur); and the scapegoat (...he shall let it go into the wilderness... Leviticus 14:22). Here is death and resurrection. Messiah was wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities. For the transgression of my people was He stricken. (Isaiah 53) He laid down His life for the sheep.
